2008 HPA Annual Convention
The Hawaii Psychological Association (HPA)
October 23 & 24, 2008
Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii
E komo mai!
This year's theme Unity and Diversity: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of Psychology reflects the many opportunities we have before us to bridge the research and clinical endeavors of our members, to bring together students, early-career and established psychologists in various disciplines and settings, identifying the common goals that unite us as a profession. On Friday, October 24th, Dr. Phil Zimbardo will be presenting a workshop in the morning on his newest book to be published in the fall, The Time Paradox, addressing the relationship of time perspective on behavior. Dr. Larry James will join him in the afternoon to discuss the intersection of their work on the psychology of evil from Zimbardo’s book The Lucifer Effect and Dr. James’ new book, Fixing Hell. This should prove to be a timely and fascinating conversation between the senior scientist who deconstructs his Stanford Prison Experiment in light of current events with the warrior who was sent by the Army to ensure that the abuses that took place at Abu Ghraib never happen again.
Advance Look: view Philip Zimbardo's TED.com presentation as he shares insights and graphic unseen photos from the Abu Ghraib trials, then talks about the flip side: how easy it is to be a hero, and how we can rise to the challenge. (Click image below, wait for download)
This is not only a time to immerse yourself in the convention’s educational content, but also to meet new colleagues, renew old relationships and rejuvenate and restore yourself.
